National Hat Day!

I just found out that today is National Hat Day. They did not tell me about this in millinery school. (Then again, they didn't tell me about St. Catherine's Day either, and she's the patron saint of milliners. The state of modern post-secondary education, you gotta wonder... )

The origins of NHD are murky. The Headwear Association (est. 1908) doesn't even know what they are.

Is this why my milliner boss gave me the day off today? Well, no, but I'm sure he would have if he had known about it himself. With pay, of course.

In honour of this murky but esteemed occasion, herewith a new offering: my new cozy toque, with the cunning fold at the back.

Hats On For Healthcare

When I was in Amherstburg selling hats one weekend last summer, I was invited to participate in the Windsor Regional Hospital's annual Hats On For Healthcare event. Local organizations, such as businesses and schools, sign on and, for a toonie, their folks get to wear a hat for the day. The toonies support the hospital.

This is the first year they will have a milliner. I'm tickled that I've been chosen!

If you're in the Windsor area, please support this fun event whichever way you can. "Friend" them on Facebook, pledge your support, wear your hat. And on February 15, please come by the hospital and choose one from me!

Here's an adorable promotional video starring patients and staff of the Pediatric wing:
